Community Hospital
OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital, Dublin, Ohio
The Dublin Methodist Hospital is located on an 85-acre greenfield site, with housing and retail to the north and east, and farmland to the west and south. As a result, the essential goal for the massing was to break down the scale of the building and continue the natural elements of the site into the hospital.
The hospital includes 94 Inpatient beds, 32 Emergency Department beds, 4 Surgical and 2 Endoscopic Suites, and a full complement of imaging technology for both Inpatient and Outpatient services. The 13 courtyards, including one in the Surgery Department, are each unique in their purpose. Several function for therapy and meditation, while others are specific to the needs of staff, patients and/or visitors. These pockets of nature allow for a brief moment of reflection, if even for the moment it takes to pass one.
The spirit of the hospital, as elegantly stated by Red Rooster, the cultural research consultant, “This truly different hospital fits into the landscape of the community with a natural rhythm that breaks down the fear and intimidation of the hospital visit.”
