Ambulatory Care Teaching Facility Program and Planning Study

SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York

The goals of the programming and planning study were twofold: program and plan a building that consolidates all the University Clinics in one location with supporting Outpatient Diagnostic and Treatment services and a facility that supports the teaching mission of the Organization. The 6 month study resulted in an 8 story, 400,000 SF building located at the core of the campus. This hub bridges two garages, the Regional Oncology Center and the future Cancer Center.

The program consists of a Full Service Outpatient Imaging Department, conveniently located on bridge level and one floor below Outpatient Surgery. The Surgery Department is comprised of 6-operating rooms, Pre and Post-Op spaces and all the required elements of a state of the art ambulatory surgery center. An ODS 23-Hour Unit is located adjacent to Surgery. This enables the safe transport of patients that require a more lengthy recovery period. Specialty Surgical Clinics such as Burn, Wound, Bariatric, and Transplant are located one floor above the Outpatient Surgery.

Additional Program elements include Orthopedic, ENT, and Cardiology Clinics, along with Pathology, Infusion and a Conference Center.
